The roads are paths, natural or built by man, intended for the circulation of means of transport. In the world, however, there are roads that due to their shape and position are considered very dangerous to travel.

Their main feature is that they are narrow, high, winding, unpaved roads and the lack of barriers between the practicable surface and the void. These roads are traveled, despite their position and characteristics, as well as for primary needs by extreme crossover enthusiasts.

Among these roads, we find 4 really incredible. The Guoliang Tunnel in China is one of them. Let’s discover its characteristics.

The tunnel is located in the mountains of Taihang and was built by the inhabitants of Guoliang to connect their village to the rest of the world. To make it happen the inhabitants spent five years digging the mountain in its outer part.

Today it measures 1.2 km, is 5 meters high and 4 meters wide and has been nicknamed “the road that does not tolerate errors”. Its curves are impressive and the level of safety borders on zero due to the sheer drop in the void that sets it apart.

The Manali-Leh, in India, is a road that is part of the ancient Silk Road, more than 500 kilometers long which reaches 5328 meters of altitude on the Tanglang Pass. This road is accessible only from May to October due to the very harsh climate. The path, although very dangerous, is appreciated for the beauty of the landscapes, the mountain ranges, the rocks, the sand and the lakes.

The road through the Salar de Uyuni, the salt desert, is found in Bolivia, on the southern Andean plateau at an altitude of 3650 meters. It is the largest salt area in the world. The area is over 10 thousand square kilometers, contains about 10 billion tons of salt stratified between them and it is rich in lithium, potassium, boron and magnesium.

The landscape is surreal and, due to its characteristics, it is extremely easy to lose orientation as in a desert of sand. Along the way, moreover, there are holes, invisible due to light reflections, from which water comes out and therefore they are very dangerous.

Despite this, the place is a very popular tourist destination because it is possible to observe wonderful sunsets, with unique shades of color, and the passage of the flamingos that populate the area.

Still in Bolivia, there is another road famous for its dangerousness. We are talking about the way of the Yungas, also called “the path of death”. 56 kilometers long, it connects La Paz to Coroico, crossing the provinces of Pedro Domingo Murillo and Nor Yungas.

This mountainous route, which has also become a tourist destination for the more adventurous, is located at an altitude of 3640 meters, reaches an altitude of 4650 meters and then decreases, down to 1525 meters near Corico.

This road is characterized by a dirt road, a very narrow passable area, very steep slopes and the absence of parapets that show the gully below. Over the years it has been the protagonist of the local crime due to the fatal accidents it has caused.
